I previously had not been the biggest fan of beard butter, and I used good brands like Badass and Ally Cat (and admittedly found some good results in a pinch from Bevel while visiting Texas, the climate of which my beard was not used to so I needed some artillery. No pun intended when I'm talking about Texas).
The reason I generally am not a fan of beard butter is because I don't like my beard feeling gunked up, I prefer to breathe. So for me, at least in my area, a beard oil on the light side in its viscosity, medium at most, works.

Bearded, a kind and generous source of guidance to beard brothers everywhere, gushed about how light Weatherbeard's beard butter so convincingly that I decided to give it a shot for my evening routine. While it's certainly still thicker than beard oil, this stuff just felt good, and was not disappointing in the morning. I could have gotten away with just calming it through and going about my day, which usually doesn't work with my beard. Also, I'm going through one of those awkward faces with my beard, and let me tell you, if I have something I have to go to where I have to depend on my beard being neat, I'm going to put some of this stuff in and actually use it for styling. This unflattering picture of me in my PJs? That's after a full day, no grooming of any sort at the end of the day, just to be honest sprayed the beard with water, waited a little bit, and then applied just this and nothing else. I did that just now to illustrate how without any extra grooming or products, without coming or brushing it, just wetting the beard and applying this stuff with my hands, this is what it looks like. Obviously this is not my beard at its best, but if I can get this far just doing that, for me, that's impressive.
So while generally I would use this primarily for beard care as part of my evening routine, I really feel this is something that I would also use for styling when I absolutely need to. Either way, this one is staying on my shelf and will be purchased again as needed. If you like a firm thick beard butter, this one isn't for you, but it's like me you actually have shot away from beard butter because it's always too thick or firm for your taste, this really leaves a beautifully light fingerprint while still identifying as a beard butter. Highly recommend.
